Discussion groups on the Internet are popular because of the way they connect people across long distances who have similar interests or mind frames. Additionally, they allow people to stay informed, at least to some degree, in their areas of topic interests. I have subscribed to various discussions groups over the years, some of which I still participate in, and some have fallen away or I lost interest. (more…)

One of the most popular and growing areas in Second Life (SL) is education. Virtual worlds are an ideal place to learn because of the convenience, and it’s a great place to teach because there is often much less overhead to deal with. That’s not to say there aren’t problems or drawbacks to learning and teaching in-world, but a virtual classroom or seminar can bring people together from around the world like no in-person setting can.
