The OSHO Legacy in Second Life
I have been reading OSHO books for some time now, and I’m a huge fan. Repeatedly, I have been impressed with OSHO’s knowledge of the gurus of the past, of his respect for certain passages in texts of all religions, and in the details of his discourses. I’m grateful to all the people who have put his words down into these many wonderful volumes that I’ve been reading and absorbing these past few years.
My favorite book of his is The Buddha Said . . . But Osho also shed light on other paths as well, including the pathless paths of Zen and The Tao.
So, of course, I was excited to discover OSHO SL Meditation Island in Second Life. This island is beautiful and peaceful. Tonight I took a stroll along it’s banks and discovered many areas where one can sit and meditate, lounge by a few waterfalls, and enjoy places where you can play music and dance. But of course, the island is not just about being pretty and peaceful.

OSHO Calendar of classes
Every week a variety of classes and events are held at various places on the island. Today I joined in on a streaming OSHO discourse. When I first arrived, the host had the foresight to hand out instructions on how to make sure you have your sound and streaming capabilities turned on. This is often a problem in SL for newbies. On the table we could get the text for the discourse, and then we listened to the streaming talk for 94 minutes. This was a treat for me, as I have not listened to a full OSHO talk. I realized how much of his humor does not make it to the books.
It’s not been surprising to me that there was much controversy over OSHO. He speaks against organized religion, against the way society conditions us, the way our families try to insert control, and so forth. But these are also what I have agreed with OSHO on, and what the great gurus of the past have taught. Buddha did not want his followers to create a religion, but that is what happened.
OSHO speaks with praise when he quotes the Buddha, Lao Tzu, and many of the great sufi masters. There are stories in the Bibles that he enjoyed, and he sheds new light on these old stories that many of us have had issues with. OSHO’s teachings speak to me on a deep level, and I see them reappear in the words of some modern day teachers like Adyashanti.
Throughout OSHO SL Mediation Island you can find OSHO texts, so while you sit and enjoy the sound of nature, the scenery, you can also read from past OSHO talks. In addition, you can get more information about the island and the events and classes at the OSHO SL Meditatio Island website, and receive quotes and announcements through OSHO Times Twitter.
