“We are connected to each other biologically, to the earth chemically, and to the cosmos atomically.” ~ Neil deGrasse Tyson

Science is about discovery. It’s a journey of uncovering evidence, testing, and verifying.  Science is not about dogmatic rules, though certainly there is criteria for how one goes about the discovery process. Science requires an open mind, a willingness to be wrong, and an enthusiasm  to see what things are and how they work.

I find the booming science of neurobiology fascinating. The exploration of how our brains work goes a long way in the self discovery process. We can view firsthand the outcome of what the brain produces through our experiences, and now fMRI, and other types of equipment are opening to explanations for all kinds of behaviors, the need for sleep, and dreaming.

I’m also an ametaur astronomer. The cosmos is an endlessly fascinating place. Every year cool discoveries are made, and the universe turns out to be more bizarre than we ever imagined.

Evolutionary science helps us place ourselves in the greater scheme of things, keeps us humble, and enables us to appreciate the other animals we share this planet with. Evolution beautiful explains the wonderful diversity of life. Note, it is not intended to explain how life started.

Science is sadly being dropped out of many schools, or worse, replaced by ignorance and belief systems. The US in particular is falling behind in teaching our children concrete well known science, and introducing them to scientific theory.

It’s my hope that more and more people will return to the present, drop ancient beliefs that only serve to hold us back, and enter the wonderful journey of discovery about our planet, the people and animals that share it, and our place in the universe.
